Getting Started
What is DriveShield and how does it work?

DriveShield is a car insurance subscription service. Instead of paying for an annual policy upfront, you subscribe monthly. You choose a plan, complete a short form, pay securely online, and your coverage starts within 24 hours. You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade at any time.

Is DriveShield a real insurance company?

Yes. DriveShield Insurance is a licensed insurance provider operating in 42 U.S. states. We are A-rated by AM Best, hold an A+ Better Business Bureau rating, and are regulated by the insurance departments of every state in which we operate.

How quickly can I get covered?

In most cases, your coverage activates within 24 hours of completing your subscription. Many customers receive their digital policy documents within a few hours of signup. If you need same-day coverage, contact our support team and we will do our best to expedite the process.

What states is DriveShield available in?

DriveShield is currently available in 42 U.S. states. Enter your ZIP code when getting a quote to confirm immediate availability in your area.

Do I need to speak with an agent to get coverage?

No. You can get a quote, choose a plan, and activate your coverage entirely online without speaking to anyone. If you prefer to talk to a human, our licensed specialists are available by phone and happy to walk you through it.

Coverage Questions
What types of coverage does DriveShield offer?

We offer three plans: Essential Shield covers liability, PIP, and roadside assistance. Premium Guard adds collision, comprehensive, and rental reimbursement. Elite Complete adds gap insurance, accident forgiveness, unlimited liability, and a dedicated claims specialist.

What vehicles can I insure with DriveShield?

We cover most standard personal-use vehicles including sedans, SUVs, crossovers, minivans, and pickup trucks. Electric vehicles are fully covered. Commercial vehicles, motorcycles, RVs, and very heavy vehicles are not currently eligible.

Are family members in my household covered?

Yes. All licensed drivers in your household who regularly drive the insured vehicle can be listed on your policy. Occasional drivers are typically covered under permissive use, though coverage may vary by situation.

What is the deductible on DriveShield plans?

Deductibles apply to collision and comprehensive claims only. Essential does not include them. Premium Guard has a $500 collision deductible and $250 comprehensive deductible. Elite Complete can include a $0 deductible option with premium adjustment.

Does my policy cover me when driving a rental car?

Yes. Your liability coverage extends to rental cars in most situations. Premium Guard and Elite Complete also include rental reimbursement when your main vehicle is in repair after a covered claim.

Does DriveShield cover acts of nature like floods or hail?

Yes. Natural disasters, weather events, falling objects, fire, and vandalism are covered under the comprehensive portion of Premium Guard and Elite Complete. Essential does not include comprehensive coverage.

Billing & Payments
When will I be charged?

Your first payment is charged when you complete your subscription. Recurring monthly payments are automatically charged on the same date each month. Annual subscribers are billed once per year on their subscription anniversary.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, PayPal, and ACH bank transfers. Payments are processed through Stripe with 256-bit SSL encryption and PCI-DSS compliance.

Can I switch to annual billing to save money?

Absolutely. Switching to annual billing saves you up to 17% compared to monthly billing. You can switch at any time through your account dashboard, with the change taking effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

Is there a setup fee or cancellation fee?

No. There is no setup fee and no cancellation fee. The only charges you will see are your premium and applicable state taxes.

What happens if my payment fails?

If a payment fails, we notify you by email and retry after 3 days. Your coverage remains active during the grace period. If payment is not resolved within 7 days, the policy may be suspended until payment is received.

Claims Process
How do I file a claim?

File a claim through your dashboard, the mobile app, or by calling 1-800-CLAIMS-DS 24/7. We will ask for incident details, photos, and any relevant report information. The process usually takes 10 to 15 minutes.

How long does the claims process take?

We acknowledge all claims within 4 hours during business hours. Simple claims can often be resolved within 3 to 5 business days, while more complex ones may take 2 to 4 weeks.

Will filing a claim increase my premium?

It may affect your premium at renewal depending on the circumstances. Not-at-fault claims typically do not raise your rate, while at-fault accidents may lead to a modest adjustment.

What should I do immediately after an accident?

Make sure everyone is safe, call 911 if needed, exchange information, take photos, avoid admitting fault, and contact our 24/7 claims line as soon as possible. We will guide you through the rest.

Account Management
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes, absolutely. Cancel through your dashboard or contact support. Your coverage remains active through the end of the current billing cycle, and prepaid annual plans may receive a prorated refund.

Can I pause my coverage temporarily?

Yes, in some situations, such as long-term vehicle storage. Liability coverage generally cannot be paused because it is legally required in most states, but we can help you review your options.

How do I change the vehicle on my policy?

Log in to your account and go to My Vehicles to add, remove, or update vehicle information. If you bought a new car and need immediate coverage transfer, our team can often process it the same day.

How do I get a copy of my insurance card or policy documents?

Your digital insurance card and full policy documents are always available in your dashboard under Documents. You can download, print, or email them at any time.
