The Measure Aims to Eliminate Religious Discrimination in Government
President Donald Trump signed an executive order to address what he calls an “anti-Christian bias” within the federal government. The new directive establishes a task force within the Department of Justice. Its mission will be to review policies and practices that, according to Trump, discriminate against Christians.
Attorney General Pam Bondi will lead this team. Their work will include evaluating measures implemented during Joe Biden’s administration. Additionally, they will identify actions that may have affected the religious freedom of the Christian community.
According to a White House statement, this order seeks to protect religious rights and stop the alleged persecution of Christians. Trump’s administration claims that the previous government took actions against people of faith. As an example, it cites the conviction of pro-life activists who prayed outside abortion clinics.
During Biden’s presidency, several anti-abortion protesters were arrested. Some were prosecuted for blocking reproductive health clinics. In January, Trump decided to pardon several of them.
This measure was announced shortly after Biden’s administration introduced a strategy to combat anti-Muslim and anti-Arab intolerance. Trump’s executive order requires the task force to operate for two years. Additionally, they must present three reports on their findings and progress.
Reactions have been mixed. Conservative groups support the initiative, arguing that it protects the Christian faith. However, critics warn that it could be used to justify discrimination against other religions or communities.
To reinforce his commitment to faith, Trump also announced the creation of a religious office in the White House. This office will be led by Pastor Paula White-Cain, a longtime ally of the former president on religious matters.
